While most people think you need cherry tomatoes for roasting, I’m here to tell you that Air Fryer Roasted Beefsteak Tomatoes are the ultimate choice for a hearty meal. Because beefsteak tomatoes are so meaty and large, they hold up beautifully under the high heat of the air fryer, resulting in a thick, juicy slices that taste like it came straight from a gourmet steakhouse.
When you are grilling your favorite steaks this season, nothing pairs better with it than a garden-fresh beefsteak tomato. These tomatoes can be roasted to perfection in the air fryer in less than 10 minutes. I’ve been serving these with our grilled meats for years, and I’d go out on a limb and say that even if you don’t like tomatoes…you’ll like these!

Can you cook tomatoes in the Air Fryer?

Tomatoes can be easily cooked in the air fryer, this needs to be done skin-side down.
Once the tomatoes are cut in a wedge, it’s best to coat them with cooking oil spray and salt. I typically use Pompeian Olive Oil Cooking Spray. It’s very important to use a spray, no aerosols or you will ruin the liner in your air fryer.
I know that olive oil is a bit controversial because of the lower smoke point, if you prefer a higher smoke point, use Grapeseed Cooking Oil Spray. Read more here on my cooking oil sprays for the air fryer.
Tips for Making Air Fryer Roasted Tomatoes:

This recipe is made using beefsteak tomatoes. These are large and juicy tomatoes, they pair wonderfully with a juicy steak.
I have used grape or cherry tomatoes in the air fryer as well. They also are delicious to roast; however, watch the cooking time closely if you swap those out for beefsteak tomatoes. If you use grape tomatoes, then you are looking for more of a bursting tomato that turns into sauce. These beefsteak tomatoes are going to be still fully intact ready to bite into with a roasted texture.
Cutting the tomato is by far the trickiest part of getting it to cook properly. The first step is to cut the tomato right in half. Place the tomato with the stem up and just cut it right down the center.
Once it’s cut lengthwise, go ahead and cut the tomato into smaller chunks. This should make about 4 chunks of tomato out of 1 beefsteak tomato, think of it in wedges. These would be cut similar to how you would make a wedge salad.
Once the cutting is done, lay them skin side down in the air fryer and continue on with roasting them in the air fryer.
- Place them skin-side down in the air fryer.
- Cook at 400 degrees F for the best texture.
- Add a little bit of olive oil spray or balsamic glaze before serving.
- Do not overcrowd the basket.
How do you store Air Fryer Roasted Tomatoes:

After the roasted tomatoes have fully cooled, store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Remember these are best served fresh.
Best Ways to Serve Air Fryer Roasted Tomatoes:
- With your favorite grilled steak!
- Serve as a simple side dish or snack throughout the day with fresh tomatoes.
- Add on top of a salad!
- Pair with grilled chicken or air fryer caprese chicken.
- Pair with pasta salad or fresh rice bowls.
My tomatoes are mushy, what do I do?
Tomatoes can get mushy if they are cut too small, overcrowded inside the basket, or cooked at a low temperature. Be sure that for this recipe, you are using thick, beefsteak tomatoes. These hold their shape well when cooked at high temperatures.
Air Fryer Roasted Tomatoes with Beefsteak Tomatoes are the best way to bring a natural sweetness and roasted texture to your garden-fresh tomatoes. These roasted tomatoes can be served with a variety of fresh meals.
