How long does it take to cook a hard-boiled egg in the air fryer?

Using a Ninja Air Fryer, these Air Fried Hard Boiled Eggs took 15 minutes. These were fully cooked hard-boiled eggs.
If you prefer soft-boiled eggs or medium-boiled eggs, set the cook time to 12 minutes.
The temperature for cooking hard-boiled eggs will be at a low temperature of 300 degrees F.
Tips for Making Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs:
It’s best to remember that this recipe was done in a preheated Air Fryer. That means that the eggs were going into a warm air fryer, if you do not preheat then it will change the cooking process.
The air fryer will be preheated for 5 minutes before placing the eggs in the air fryer.
Place the eggs directly into the air fryer basket, be sure to leave room around the sides of the egg so that hot air can circulate. Also, be sure that the fresh eggs are in a single layer. When you are ready to remove the eggs from the air fryer basket, use tongs as the eggs will be hot.
I prefer to do 6 eggs at a time instead of all 12 at the same time.

While the eggs are cooking prepare a bowl of cold water with ice cubes for the ice water bath. This will take place immediately following the cooking time. The eggs will sit on the bowl of ice water.
As soon as the air fryer cooking is complete, place eggs directly into the ice bath for 5 minutes.
The easiest way to peel the eggs is immediately following the ice bath. The cold eggs are easier to peel than when they come to room temperature. The peeled eggs can then be used immediately or stored in the fridge.
The full instructions will be in the recipe card below.

I made one test egg for a snack. It turned out perfect! The egg was very fresh, but only lost a little bit of white. This will be my new go to for hard boiled eggs. Thanks!

*sounds* like it should work, but it doesn’t – I still get a black ring around the yolk!

You may be cooking them too long for your fryer.. try 2 minutes less ; )

Arrgh! I can’t get it right. In my AF, this exact recipe – room temp eggs, 300°F preheated fryer, 12 mins – produced very undercooked eggs.
Longer times produced cooked eggs, but the contact points with the basket get overcooked, creating spots that stick and the shell has to be cut away.
I would also like to have cooking times specified for cold eggs with no preheating. The point of using the fryer is convenience – no pot of water, no waiting for it to boil, no scalding water to pour out. Having times and temperatures for leaving eggs to cool in the oven would be useful – put ’em in, get them at my convenience.
Instructions for hard boiled eggs always include putting them in ice water immediately because they will be easier to peel. But is it true? Why? Peel – when? They keep much better in the shell.
There are many things that are claimed to help peel boiled eggs – add vinegar, salt, baking soda to the pot; punch a hole in the egg shell; peel underwater; yodel Copacabana with one eye closed. What actually works and why? ‘Grandma always got great results’ doesn’t cut it!

Every air fryer is a little different. Some run hot, some run cool, and basket and rack setups really impact airflow. If your eggs are undercooked at 12 minutes, try bumping it up to 14–16 minutes at 300°F—but place them on a on a silicone mat made for the air fryer to reduce hot spots and prevent sticking. That’ll help with the overcooked contact points too.
If you’re using cold eggs straight from the fridge and skipping preheat, add 2–3 extra minutes to your cook time. For hard-boiled, that means something like – Cold eggs, no preheat at 270°F–280°F for 17–18 minutes.
Regarding the ice bath it’s totally worth it because – the sudden temp drop causes the egg white to contract slightly, pulling away from the shell, which helps loosen that membrane layer that makes peeling such a pain. If you skip the ice bath, the membrane often clings tighter, especially with fresher eggs.
I hope this helps!!

The “cold” method makes perfect hard boiled eggs in my RV mini air fryer!
Put refrigerated eggs in the basket of the cold air fryer. Set temp to 275°. After 15 minutes, carefully remove hot eggs with a large spoon, plunge them into bowl of cold water and ice for 6-7 minutes. Peel. (Can’t eat them all immediately? Refrigerate them up to a few days in an airtight container.)
Thank you, Emily, for a great, easy method for making hard boiled eggs!
