Make a delicious, juicy, and tender Air Fryer Beef Roast in just about an hour!
This Air Fryer Beef Roast will soon be a favorite in your household, it’s very easy to make and tender. It comes out with a nice seared outside layer and then it is nice and tender inside.
Making a roast in the Air Fryer does take some time and steps; however, if you may have forgotten to put the crockpot on in the morning, this is a great alternative method to use.
We paired this roast with Air Fryer Roasted Carrots and Potatoes.
Tips for Making Air Fryer Beef Roast:
This method does take some steps and patience, but it’s also very easy. The first thing you will want to do is preheat the air fryer for about 5 minutes, then place the roast in the air fryer to sear the outside.
It’s best to spray the air fryer with a cooking oil spray. I typically use olive oil cooking spray without an issue; however, if you prefer a higher smoke point, use an oil such as grapeseed oil.
The roast does need to be cooked from a thawed state. Be sure to let it thaw out before cooking.
It’s also best to season it, we use Weber Steak Seasoning on the roast and it was wonderful.
Remember to follow the recipe card completely, as the gravy packet is not made per the instructions on it. If you need to make it gluten-free, be sure to use a gluten-free brown gravy packet.
Once the roast is fully cooked, you’ll have drippings in the foil that can be used for gravy.
Can you put aluminum foil in the air fryer?
This works the best with a sheet of aluminum foil under it, this is what catches the gravy and liquid that is poured over the roast.
Foil can be used in the air fryer, but it needs to be rolled up on the sides so that air can fully circulate.
Now, are you ready for this Air Fryer Beef Roast? Time to eat up!
Air Fryer Beef Roast
Ingredients
- 3 Lb Beef Chuck Roast
- 1 Tsp Steak Seasoning
- 1 Package Gluten-Free or Regular Brown Gravy Mix
- 1/2 Cup Water
- 4 Tbsp Unsalted Butter
- Parsley or Rosemary to Garnish
Instructions
- Begin by preheating the air fryer to 390*F for about 5 minutes.
- While this is preheating, season the roast evenly with steak seasoning.
- Combine the gravy with 1/2 cup water and set aside.
- Once the preheating time is up, carefully spray the air fryer with cooking oil spray of choice such as grapeseed oil.
- Place the roast in the air fryer and let it cook at 390*F for 15 minutes. This will sear the outside.
- Once the cooking time is up, prepare a sheet of foil to place the roast on.
- Carefully remove the roast from the air fryer and place it on the foil.
- Roll the foil up around the roast and place it back in the air fryer.
- At this point, be sure the foil is up around the sides of the roast to be sure that air will still circulate.
- Carefully pour the brown gravy mixture over the roast, evenly.
- Place the butter on top of the roast.
- Cook at 325*F for 30-40 minutes until the internal temperature reaches at least 145*F.
- Once done, let rest for 5 minutes, slice, and serve.
- Roast can be served with drippings as a gravy.

Could you convert this recipe to be made in a convection oven? I’m hesitant about pouring the gravy over the meat because of potential leaks. I don’t want a mess to clean up.
Kristy says
Yes, it probably could be and put in a pan, I don’t know though the exact cook times on that because I haven’t made it that way though so you’d have to watch it as far as the cooking time goes. If it helps, we did not have any leaks or mess because of the foil under it.

I’m making it now. It s looks great! Not done yet, but very easy cook method.

I just made this dish tonight for my son and his girlfriend and they loved it. The only thing I did differently was that I added baby carrots while meat was cooking then in the last 20 minutes I added baby potatoes cut in half tossed in olive oil with salt and pepper. It was awesome thanks for sharing.
Yvette says
Thanks Rose. Was wondering about that. I added mushrooms and wanna try a few carrots and potatoes. It’s in progress yummy
Debi says
Does it cook on air or the roast setting
Kristy says
I make this one using the Air Crisp function.
Tracey Townsend says
Just made this tonight and I won’t likely make roasts any other way now! So easy and so good! Thanks for sharing.
Renae says
This is awesome. I would love it if you would share this on The Fabulous Friday Link Party this Friday. https://www.peacockridgefarm.com/category/fabulous-friday-link-party/
Hugs to you.
suzan says
thanks………..have to try this way………..how did you cook veggies
Kristy says
I did the veggies separately in the air fryer, cook the carrots and potatoes for about 15-20 minutes at 390*F.
Jo Owens says
Sounds delicious! Going to give it a try. Do you have instructions as to how to fix meatloaf in an air fryer? Thanks.
Baltisraul says
Very nice meal and congrats on #303!
Jeanie says
My roast is only 1.5#. Should I adjust the cook time?
Kristy says
Yes I would adjust, you’ll likely just need to check on it throughout the cooking time and use a meat thermometer to check it.
Maryanne says
Why the foil? Can’t you just use the pan? I’m looking for classic pot roast with potatoes and carrots…. And they all roast together….
Don says
I have a nika max what setting, max, air Fry, roast ? Thank youDon
Kristy says
You would use the Air Fry for any of the recipes on this site.
bobC says
Instead of aluminum foil, why not use an aluminum bowl that fits into the fryer basket? I’m making this tomorrow and that is what I’m going to try. Wish me luck.
Mike Z says
I use a 9″ cake pan works great
Sue says
What is the largest weight Beef Joint you can air cook. Have a large fryer.
Thanks
Kristy says
It’s going to depend on your air fryer. Mine won’t fit more than 3-4 lbs, but if yours is larger it may fit more but the time of cooking may need to be adjusted.
Randall P says
OMG! This recipe was so so good. I used Cajun steak seasoning to give it a little kick and it was fabulous. I used a beef shoulder roast which can often be tough. But this was like butter… Definitely my go-to recipe!
Jay says
As promised, live from canada.
Well done!
Kacee says
Chuck? Isn’t chuck best for boiled beef, etc. and not as a roast?
Kristy says
We love it, but you can always use whichever you prefer. https://www.tastingtable.com/1067796/absolute-best-cuts-of-meat-for-roast-beef/
Helena says
Can you use a cross rib roast the same recipe
Kristy says
I haven’t used that one yet, so you’d have to test it and see. You could start with the same time and temp and then check the internal temperature throughout cooking.
Randy says
Can you please explain why you use the Air Crisp setting instead of Roast for this? Sorry very new to air frying
Kristy says
Air Crisp is going to be like doing this in the Air Fryer. Roast is going to be more like baking so the time and temp will be different.
Niesha says
Is air fry setting same as air crisp?
Kristy says
Yes it is
Yvonne W. says
At first I was hesitant to cook my roast beef in the Air fryer. This far it’s turning out to be okay. I sauted the veggies first and then followed by putting the roast back in the Air fryer using the foil.
