Make a delicious dish with fewer calories with this Air Fryer Honey Garlic Chicken.

Air Fryer Honey Garlic Chicken
I have used so many small kitchen appliances over the years, most of them are all fabulous but not something I use all the time. Guess what?
I found one that may have just changed my life, the Air Fryer. Have you tried an Air Fryer yet? I was skeptical at first, then we made this Air Fryer Honey Garlic Chicken, and I’m in love.
There are so many different things you can make in an Air Fryer. I’m going to try some Catfish Nuggets and Mongolian Beef here soon too. What have you tried?

Since I’m gluten-free having take-out at our local Asian restaurant isn’t something I can do, typically I just make my own at home but I’ve yet to figure out how to get the chicken super crispy without frying it.
Now, I can do that with the Air Fryer with this air fryer chicken recipe.
I coated this chicken in cornstarch; however, I hear that potato starch is the best choice. I decided to go with cornstarch since that is what I had on hand. It worked just as well too.

I am also planning to try it with some Sweet and Sour Sauce too, so many options, I just can’t wait!
How do you make Air Fryer Honey Garlic Chicken?
I made the Honey Garlic Sauce adapting my recipe for the Slow Cooker Honey Ginger Chicken, then you will want to also use boneless, skinless chicken thighs.
The chicken thighs are the best choice because they are a little bit juicier than a chicken breast.
I am now using a Ninja Foodi Air Fryer; however, you can check out a variety of different air fryers in my post on, How to Choose the Right Air Fryer.
The video in this post is actually done in the Ninja Foodi.
Once the chicken comes out of the Air Fryer, you will then want to toss it in the sauce before serving. So the sauce will not be on the chicken when it’s in the Air Fryer.

Now, once our chicken was done, we paired it with green beans and rice.
It hit the spot for us and made me think I am going to be adding recipes like this to our menu every week!

Now, what have you tried in the Air Fryer? I’d love to hear some more recipes I should try too!

Air Fryer Honey Garlic Chicken
Ingredients
- 6 Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs
- Cornstarch or Potato Starch
- 1/2 Cup Honey
- 1/2 Cup Soy Sauce or Gluten Free Soy Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Brown Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Ketchup
- 1 Clove Crushed Garlic
- 1/2 Tsp Ground Ginger
- 1 Tbsp Cornstarch
- Cooked Rice
- Cooked Green Beans
- Sliced Green Onions
Instructions
- Cut the chicken into cubed chunks, then toss in a bowl with Cornstarch or Potato Starch. Use enough to coat the chicken evenly.
- Place in the Air Fryer and cook according to your Air Fryer Manual for chicken. (Note - I cooked ours on 390* for 24 Minutes, 12 minutes on each side. Chicken Breast will not cook as long.)
- While the chicken is cooking, in a small saucepan, combine the honey, soy sauce, brown sugar, ketchup, garlic, and ginger.
- Bring this to a low boil, then whisk in the cornstarch until the sauce is thickened. (Note, if it's not thick enough, add in additional cornstarch until nicely thickened.)
- Set aside.
- Once the chicken is cooked, mix it into the sauce and warm up. This can be done in a small skillet or the saucepan, simply coat the chicken with the sauce. It will be a sticky texture sauce.
- Serve the chicken over the cooked rice with green beans.
- Garnish with green onion.

I am wondering why the ingredients on the site do not match the ingredients in the video (brown sugar being one of them).
I apologize for the confusion, the only one missing is brown sugar, I recently updated the recipe cards on the website and it got dropped for some reason. I’ve updated that it’s 2 TBSP brown sugar.
This sounds AMAZING!! I’m so excited to try it out! I just bought an air fryer a couple days ago, so I’m scouring Pinterest for recipes.
I do have one question though— do you spray the chicken with oil after coated or add any oil at all?
I usually will spray it with olive oil spray if needed, I keep that handy anytime I use the air fryer and usually coat almost everything with it. You just need a spray/mist not a lot.
I tried this recipe with a pound and a half of chicken breast and the sauce came out too dark. Don’t know what I did wrong. Something doesn’t seem right. Very disappointed.
We use chicken thighs on this one, with chicken breast, you will need to do less cook time. We went by the chicken cook time on our air fryer for chicken thighs. With chicken breast, they dry out and overcook quickly. If you do this again with chicken breast, I would check on the chicken around the 18 minutes time frame to see if it’s done at that point.
Just 1 clove for the entire meal? We don’t mince it right?
Yes, just 1, I crush it.
Thank you so much for this recipe! I followed the instructions exactly and it turned out perfect. Will be making this from now on.
One of my family members doesn’t like honey. Can I substitute the honey ingredient with light brown or dark brown sugar? TIA
I haven’t ever tried this one without the honey, so I’d probably do a different sauce.
