These gluten-free air fryer fried pickles are made with pantry-style ingredients and simple swaps, making them a great go-to snack, or add them to your list of air fryer game day recipes!
This recipe uses minimal ingredients to make a delicious appetizer. Plus, these contain a lot less oil than the deep fried pickles that you are probably familiar with.
What do you need for Gluten-Free Air Fried Pickles?
- Sliced Pickle Chips (Dill Pickles, Sweet Pickles, Bread and Butter Pickles, or Favorite of Choice)
- Buttermilk
- Gluten-Free All-Purpose Flour
- Eggs
- Gluten-Free Breadcrumbs
- Salt to Taste
How do you make Air Fryer Pickles?
Before making the air-fried pickle recipe, we like to soak the pickles in buttermilk in a shallow bowl similar to what you would do with onion rings. The flavor of the buttermilk and the tangy pickle flavor tend to even each other out and give a great final flavor to the pickles, making them easy to snack on without all the tang.
Once you have the pickles soaked, then you will move on to dredging them in gluten-free all purpose flour and shaking off any excess.
Next, you will give them a nice dip into the egg mixture and finally coat them with gluten-free breadcrumbs. We prefer to use gluten-free panko breadcrumbs.
The coated pickles can be placed in a single layer in the air fryer basket, I do recommend coating the basket with grapeseed oil spray first or you can also line the basket with the aluminum foil.
If you do line the basket with foil, be sure the pickles are weighing it down before you start the air fryer.
The hot air must be able to circulate in order to make them crisp. If the pickles look floury, simply add another coat of oil spray. It will take some oil spray to get them crisp and golden brown.
This recipe can be made in a Ninja Foodi or Ninja Air Fryer too using the Air Crisp Function.
Can you use pickle spears?
This same crispy fried pickles method can be used for pickle spears too, the ingredients may need to be adjusted based on how large the pickles are, but the same method can be used.
Best Dipping Sauces for this Easy Recipe:
This side dish is best served with a dipping sauce such as Homemade Ranch Dressing.
This is our personal favorite and makes for an easy appetizer during a party or a game day party.
How to add extra flavor to the pickles:
If you would like to add additional flavor to your pickles that pleases your taste buds, try a few of these seasonings. They can be added while in the air fryer or just before serving.
- Cayenne Pepper
- Garlic Salt
- Garlic Powder
- Cajun Seasoning
- Grated Parmesan Cheese
- Sea Salt
How do you store Air Fryer Fried Pickles?
Fried Pickles are best served right away with your favorite dipping sauce, straight from the air fryer.
If you do need to save them, store them in the fridge for up to 4 days in an airtight container. They can be reheated in the air fryer at 360°F for 3-4 minutes or in the microwave.
The air fryer version is a great way to make these fried pickles versus the traditional deep fry version because it is way less vegetable oil, there is none except the spritz of oil spray.
Now you are ready to party with this delicious recipe for some of the best pickles all made in the air fryer!
