Get that movie theater taste with this Air Fryer Popcorn!

Air Fryer Popcorn is life-changing, can popcorn be life-changing?  Maybe not, but let’s just go with it is!

Air Fryer Popcorn

I’ve made popcorn in the microwave, stove, and air popper, but in the air fryer?  It’s amazing!  It gives the popcorn this roasted taste, not burnt but more roasted than it would be in a microwave or air popper.  It has more of that movie theater taste to it for some reason.

Now, to make Air Fryer Popcorn it can be a bit tricky.

Can you make Ninja Foodi Popcorn?

Air Fryer Popcorn

This can be made as Ninja Foodi Popcorn or Air Fryer Popcorn, either way, you will get the same result.  If you use the Ninja Foodi, simply use the air crisp function of the Ninja Foodi and follow all the remaining instructions.

Can you use aluminum foil in an air fryer?

Aluminum foil can be used in an air fryer.  If you have an air fryer basket that has holes large enough for the kernels to fall through it, then you will want to place them on a sheet of foil and simply roll up the edges so the air still circulates.

Air Fryer Popcorn

I made ours sort of like a pouch and used 1/4 cup popcorn kernels to put inside.

Tips for Making Air Fryer Popcorn:

Once the kernels are in the foil, coat them with the olive oil cooking spray.  Then, you will cook it at 390*F in the air fryer for 15 minutes, keeping a close eye on it so it does not burn.

Air Fryer Popcorn

You’ll hear the popping and you certainly want to be sure there is a lid on the air fryer so the popcorn isn’t flying all over the place.  I just peeked in to see how it was cooking for around 10 minutes and let it go until 15 minutes.

There will be some kernels that do not pop, just like you see when microwaving popcorn.

Air Fryer Popcorn

We just season it with butter, salt, or other seasonings that you prefer once it’s done.

We found that we loved the taste just plain, it tasted roasted and delicious.

Yield: 2
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes

Air Fryer Popcorn is a great roasted popcorn flavor in just 15 minutes!

  • 1/4 Cup Popcorn Kernals
  • Olive Oil Cooking Spray
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Salt to Taste

  1. Make a foil packet or pouch and put the kernels on top, making sure it fits your air fryer and is rolled up on the sides.
  2. Spray the kernels with olive oil cooking spray.
  3. Cook at 390*F for 15 minutes, checking in on it carefully around 10 minutes. Be sure the lid is nice and sealed on the air fryer.
  4. Carefully remove once done and discard the kernels that didn't pop and serve with the seasoning of choice.

As always remember that air fryers heat wildly different...some get much hotter or cooler than others. We used a Ninja Air Fryer and 15 minutes was perfect for this, if it's not fully popped after 15 minutes, add 5 more minutes. Start checking or listening for popping at 10 minutes.

15 minutes? That seems like a long time to cook popcorn.

Air Fryers heat differently, if nothing after 15 minutes, you’d want to let it cook a bit longer to fully heat. We use a Ninja Air Fryer and 15 minutes is perfect for our air fryer.

Oh no!! 🙁 Try to add an extra 5 minutes on if it hasn’t popped at all. The air fryers heat so differently that it takes a couple of times to get the perfect time for your air fryer. They all put out a different level of heat.

Didn’t work in the Instant pot air fryer. Just burnt everything after 22 min with only a few burnt pops.
