What do you need to make Air Fryer Pita Chips?
- Regular Pita Bread or Gluten-Free Pita Bread
- Grapeseed Oil
- Kosher Salt
- Parsley
- Garlic Powder
If you want to add a kick to them add some red pepper flakes for a spicy snack or you can use your favorite seasonings too.
How do you make pita chips gluten-free?
Use a gluten-free pita bread to make gluten-free pita chips. The best pita bread we have found is BFree Pita Breads, I’ve found these at both Walmart and Costco.
They have a very similar texture to traditional pita bread, which makes them a great choice for this recipe. Be sure though to watch closely when cooking since all air fryers heat a bit differently and these are just a bit thinner than traditional pita bread.
The type of pita bread you use, either gluten-free or regular may affect cooking time.
Tips for Making Air Fryer Pita Chips:
This recipe will use store-bought pita bread, then it will need to be cut into triangles. This is best done with a pizza cutter on a cutting board. Remember for best results use pita bread that is room temperature.
Cut the pita pockets just like you would a pizza, once the pita bread is cut, place the pita triangles into the air fryer basket. These will need to be placed in a single layer with room between each one that gives the air room to circulate.
The hot air circulating around the pita chips will make them crispy.
While the pita chips are in the air fryer before cooking, add a coat of grapeseed oil spray to each one along with a dash of kosher salt, parsley, and garlic powder. If preferred you can use your favorite herbs and spices too.
Once they are coated cook them at 360 degrees F for 8-10 minutes. The cooking time will vary depending on your machine so it is very important to watch them closely.
If you preheat your machine, take the cooking time down to 5 minutes.
A standard air fryer basket will likely cook 6-8 chips at a time depending on how large the triangles are. If you do multiple batches, the air fryer will already be warm with the second batch and will cook faster, keep this in mind.
The pita should be golden brown and carefully remove it from the air fryer. The result will be crunchy air fryer pita chips that make a great snack served with your favorite dipping sauce or as is!
How should you store leftover pita chips?
Warm pita chips can be stored in an airtight container for 2-3 days at room temperature.
The pita chips will taste best right out of the air fryer, so it’s best to make a few and then store the extra pita bread until you are ready to make more pita chips.
