What type of egg roll wraps should you use?
This recipe is made with these egg roll wraps that we picked up at Walmart; however, you can use any egg roll wrap that you prefer.
If you are looking to make these gluten-free, try these gluten-free egg roll wrappers.
In the case of these Air Fryer Egg Rolls, I simply used the store-bought wrappers that you can pick up typically in the produce section of the grocery store.
Tips for Making Air Fryer Egg Rolls:
The filling for these can be made with anything you prefer, in this case, I used a store-bought coleslaw mix along with soy sauce to make the filling. I also added some cooked, ground pork sausage to it as well, this will be used to make pork egg rolls.
For a lighter alternative, use ground turkey instead of ground sausage and add a little bit of fennel seed to the ground turkey.
Once the filling is made, simply add about a fourth cup of the filling to the egg roll wrap and then wrap it up per the instructions for that particular egg roll wrap that you are using, then place egg rolls into your air fryer basket in a single layer.
How do you make Ninja Foodi Egg Rolls?
If you have a Ninja Foodi, the filling for the egg rolls can be done in the pot of the Ninja Foodi, then you can go ahead and fill up the egg rolls and place them in the air fryer basket of the Ninja Foodi to get ready to air fry them.
Do you need to add oil to Air Fryer Egg Rolls?
It is best to use a cooking oil spray to coat the egg rolls in order to get that nice, crispy golden brown outside. The idea is to create a crispy egg roll. This can be done with grapeseed cooking oil spray, olive oil spray, or the oil spray of your choice.
Using an oil spray and the air fryer allows you to use much less oil than you would with deep frying the egg rolls.
The cooking oil spray along with the hot air from the air fryer will crisp the egg rolls, making them perfect to serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
Air Fryer Tips:
Remember that all air fryers heat differently, which means the first time that you make these be sure to keep a close eye on them during the cooking time.
Watch for the corner of the egg roll wrapper to get crispy, once you see the wrappers beginning to crisp then it will be almost time to remove them.
It’s always a good idea to check on them around 6-8 minutes to be sure they are cooking nicely and not overcooking. Once they are done, use tongs to remove them as they will be very hot.
How do you store crispy egg rolls?
Our favorite way to store these is to simply place them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
If you would like to keep them more fresh, wrap them in plastic wrap before adding them to the container.
When ready to serve, they can be heated up in a microwave-safe dish for 2-3 minutes. For best results, they can also be heated on medium-high heat in the air fryer for 3-4 minutes.
This is an easy recipe that will pair perfectly with Air Fryer Chicken Fried Rice or as a perfect snack as is!
Enjoy making your own egg rolls right at home!
